Abhinav R.

Biography

Abhinav R completed his graduation in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad. He is a passionate Young Professional upskilling his juniors and imparting technical knowledge and hands-on skills to engineering students of Kerala. Abhinav has led about 12 humanitarian projects for the past 3 years and impacted 2000+ needful people by providing them with clean water, electrification, and self-sustainability through various diversity and inclusion programs.

Abhinav has influenced many student Branches to initiate activities that impact their professional development and technical skills. Most of his project team consisted of 20- 40 members from discrete OUs and this networking provided each individual team member to get directly mentored by him. To promote gender equality he promotes a 1:1 ratio in all his projects and has won about 5 awards including the MGA Young Professional Achievement award for his initiatives. Being passionate about his domain, he has covered over 200+ technical sessions including domains of Renewable energy, Electrical Vehicles, Energy Auditing, Embedded system design, Managerial sessions, and different engineering software. With the motto of ‘Education, Water, Electricity as basic rights of Human beings’, Abhinav has created a community of research and development members and humanitarian volunteers with technical skill sets to develop and deploy humanitarian projects to the needful communities with affordable and reliable technical solutions. His act of kindness has led light to many lives and the Section is a proud possessor of Abhinav.

Oscar Bonastre

Biography

Oscar M. Bonastre (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer engineering from the University of Alicante, Alicante, Spain, in 1994 and 1995, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunications engineering from the University Politécnica de Valencia, Valencia, Spain, in 2007.

He has an academic and industrial career spanning more than 25 years. He has been with Miguel Hernandez University, Elche, Spain, since the year of its foundation in 1997. His research has focused on the areas of development of the Internet, among others.

Dr. Bonastre was the recipient of the IEEE Edwin C. Jones, Jr. Meritorious Service Award 2020. He is an Expert Evaluator for the European Commission and research agencies across Europe. He was appointed as the Vice Dean for International Relations in the College of Engineering from 2012 to 2015. He is active in the International Engineering Education Community, and his teaching interests include advanced distributed systems. He has a long service record with IEEE since 1997. He is a member of IEEE-HKN and holds membership in the IEEE Communications Society and the IEEE Education Society. He has been the Chair of the IEEE Spain Section. For more than a decade, he served on the Board of Directors of the IEEE Education Society Chapter of the Spanish Section and, during his period of chapter presidency from 2020 to 2021, he led the organization and promotion of numerous events about the use of technologies to support engineering education. He has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON EDUCATION, an Editorial Steering Committee Member of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON EDUCATION and IEEE Revista Iberoamericana Tecnologías del Aprendizaje (RITA), and the Co-Editor-in-Chief of TICAI, a journal supported by the IEEE Education Chapter of Portugal and Spain.

Diane Rover

Biography

Diane Rover has been a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University since 2001, and was named University Professor in 2015. She currently serves as the director for two large-scale, NSF-funded programs: IINspire LSAMP is an alliance of sixteen institutions in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska to broaden participation in STEM; and SP@ISU is a campus-wide program to support the broader impacts work of faculty. She is principal investigator of an NSF grant at ISU to investigate STEM faculty engagement with broader impacts. She is also co-PI for a nation-wide grant to establish the National Alliance for Broader Impacts. She has also been the principal investigator on NSF STEP and S-STEM grants at Iowa State that have focused on the recruitment, retention and success of engineering students. Dr. Rover has served on the IEEE Committee on Engineering Accreditation Activities and on the IEEE Education Society Board of Governors. She represented IEEE on the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET from 2009-2014 and began a term on the EAC Executive Committee in 2015. She began serving as an IEEE ABET program evaluator for computer engineering in 2002. From 1996-1998, she was director of technical activities for the IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section. Starting in 2009, she held officer positions in the ASEE ECE Division. She served as program chair for the ECE Division for the 2010 ASEE Annual Conference. From 2000-2008, she led the Academic Bookshelf column as a senior associate editor for the ASEE Journal of Engineering Education.

Dr. Rover was appointed Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs in the College of Engineering from 2004-2010. Prior to that, she served as associate chair for undergraduate education in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2003-2004. She began her academic career at Michigan State University, where, from 1991-2001, she held the positions of assistant professor and associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. From 1997 to 2000, she served as director of the undergraduate program in computer engineering at MSU. She also served as interim department chair in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2000 to 2001. She was a research staff member in the Scalable Computing Laboratory at the Ames Laboratory under a U.S-D.O.E. Postdoctoral Fellowship from 1989 to 1991. She received the B.S. degree in computer science in 1984, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer engineering in 1986 and 1989, respectively, from Iowa State University. She was the first woman to receive a Ph.D. in computer engineering at ISU. Her teaching and research has focused on the areas of embedded computer systems, reconfigurable hardware, integrated program development and performance environments for parallel and distributed systems, visualization, performance monitoring and evaluation, and engineering education.

Dr. Rover is a 2016 IEEE Fellow, 2012 ASEE Fellow and member of the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Education Society, and the ASEE. She currently serves as a representative for Iowa State in the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT). She received an NSF CAREER Award in 1996.

Jeffrey E. Froyd

Biography

Prof. Jeffrey E. Froyd has been recognized worldwide as an engineering education pioneer and for his achievements in various areas, including integrated curriculum development and evaluation; adoption, institutionalization, and propagation of educational innovations; curriculum redesign; and faculty development.

He has served as Project Director for a National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Education Coalition in which six institutions systematically renewed, assessed, and institutionalized innovative, integrated undergraduate engineering curricula. He has offered over 30 workshops on faculty development, curricular change processes, curriculum redesign and assessment in the U.S. and abroad.

Before joining the Department of Engineering Education of Ohio State University as a professor in November 2017, Prof. Froyd spent 18 years at Texas A&M University, most recently as a Research Professor in the Office of Engineering Academic and Student Affairs. Previously, he was a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rose-Hulman. There, he co-created the Integrated First-Year Curriculum in Science, Engineering and Mathematics, which was recognized in 1997 with a Hesburgh Award Certificate of Excellence.

Dr. Froyd, a Fellow of the IEEE and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), is a past Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Transactions on Education, a Senior Associate Editor for the Journal on Engineering Education, and an Associate Editor for the International Journal on STEM Education.
