Dr. Ilhem Kallel is an accomplished academic and researcher, currently serving as A. Professor of Computer Science at the University of Sfax, Tunisia. With a Ph.D. in Computer Systems Engineering, she is a Senior Member of IEEE and a long-standing contributor to the global engineering and computing community. Her research interests span intelligent systems, biologically inspired algorithms, multi-agent architectures, and AI-enhanced educational technologies, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications, including in IEEE-sponsored journals and conferences.
Dr. Kallel’s deep commitment to IEEE is reflected in her extensive leadership record. She served as Chair of the IEEE Tunisia Section (2021–2022), where she led major strategic initiatives, oversaw the successful hosting of EDUCON 2022 and ISCC 2023, and received IEEE Region 8’s Special Recognition Award. She has also been recognized with the IEEE Education Society Chapter Achievement Award (2023) and the IEEE WIE Region 8 Clementina Saduwa Award (2011).

Currently, she holds multiple influential IEEE roles. She is Chair of the Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society Tunisia Chapter (SMC28), Vice-Chair of both the IEEE Education Society Tunisia Chapter and the IEEE Consultant Network Affinity Group, and Secretary of the IEEE Tunisia Section’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Chapter. She is a founding counselor and advisor for various IEEE student branches and affinity groups (WIE, RA24) at ISIMS and ENIS, promoting grassroots IEEE engagement.

In addition to these roles, Dr. Kallel was recently appointed as:

  • Secretary of the IEEE Africa Council,

  • Member of the IEEE Region 8 Conference Coordination Committee, and

  • Member of the IEEE Education Society’s Conferences and Workshops Committee.

These roles reflect her growing impact across regional and global IEEE operations. She also serves on the IEEE EDUCON Advisory Board and contributes to numerous technical program committees and editorial boards.

Dr. Kallel is a strong advocate for inclusive STEM education and international academic collaboration. Through her volunteer leadership, academic excellence, and mentorship, she continues to advance IEEE’s mission of “technology for the benefit of humanity.
