Diversity Round Table

Presented by Carina Gonzalez, EiC of IEEE RITA
Diversity has proven to be one of the keys to success for any organization, both business and research. This diversity allows the organization as a whole to be aware of the needs and concerns of its target population, thus becoming more efficient and reaching a greater number of people in its development. However, the enrollment of women in engineering has been declining every year for the last three decades. In particular, in computer engineering, the gender gap is growing. Although there are numerous initiatives to promote STEM careers among women, they do not have the expected result in increasing the presence of women in engineering. So, we must face the challenge of teacher training, both in STEM areas and in co-education.
