Oscar M. Bonastre (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer engineering from the University of Alicante, Alicante, Spain, in 1994 and 1995, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunications engineering from the University Politécnica de Valencia, Valencia, Spain, in 2007.
He has an academic and industrial career spanning more than 25 years. He has been with Miguel Hernandez University, Elche, Spain, since the year of its foundation in 1997. His research has focused on the areas of development of the Internet, among others.
Dr. Bonastre was the recipient of the IEEE Edwin C. Jones, Jr. Meritorious Service Award 2020. He is an Expert Evaluator for the European Commission and research agencies across Europe. He was appointed as the Vice Dean for International Relations in the College of Engineering from 2012 to 2015. He is active in the International Engineering Education Community, and his teaching interests include advanced distributed systems. He has a long service record with IEEE since 1997. He is a member of IEEE-HKN and holds membership in the IEEE Communications Society and the IEEE Education Society. He has been the Chair of the IEEE Spain Section. For more than a decade, he served on the Board of Directors of the IEEE Education Society Chapter of the Spanish Section and, during his period of chapter presidency from 2020 to 2021, he led the organization and promotion of numerous events about the use of technologies to support engineering education. He has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON EDUCATION, an Editorial Steering Committee Member of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON EDUCATION and IEEE Revista Iberoamericana Tecnologías del Aprendizaje (RITA), and the Co-Editor-in-Chief of TICAI, a journal supported by the IEEE Education Chapter of Portugal and Spain.
