Call for Nominations: 2026 Editor-in-Cheif IEEE Transactions on Education (IEEE-ToE)
The IEEE Education Society invites applications and nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the journal IEEE Transactions on Education (IEEE-ToE). IEEE Transactions on Education is the flagship archival journal of the IEEE Education Society. The journal publishes high-quality peer-reviewed research that advances the theory and practice of engineering and computing education, including innovative pedagogies, learning technologies, assessment methods, and research methodologies in engineering education.

Term of Appointment
The current Editor-in-Chief term concludes in June 2026. The new Editor-in-Chief will serve either a three-year term (July 2026 – June 2029), renewable once or a five-year non-renewable term (July 2026 – June 2031).
The exact term structure will follow IEEE Education Society policy and IEEE Publications guidelines.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:

Be an IEEE member in good standing (Member, Senior Member, Fellow, or Life Member).

preferably be a member of the IEEE Education Society.

Have a strong record of scholarly publication and leadership in engineering education research.

Demonstrate significant editorial experience, such as Associate Editor, Editorial Board Member, or Editor-in-Chief of a peer-reviewed journal.
Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief provides the scientific leadership and editorial direction of the journal. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Managing the day-to-day editorial operations of the journal through the IEEE manuscript management system.

Appointing and coordinating Associate Editors and Editorial Board members.

Ensuring high-quality and timely peer review of submitted manuscripts.

Monitoring the quality, reputation, and impact of the journal.

Identifying emerging research directions in engineering education and strengthening the journal’s scope.

Encouraging submission of high-quality manuscripts from leading researchers.
-
Managing special issue proposals and overseeing their editorial process.
-
Coordinating with the IEEE Education Society and IEEE Publications staff.

Addressing ethical issues and conflicts related to the publication process.

Strong candidates should demonstrate:

Internationally recognized expertise in engineering education research.

Submission Process
Applications should be submitted no later than 22 May 2026.

Selection Process
Applications will be evaluated by a Committee appointed by the Vice President for Publications. The committee will assess candidates based on their editorial experience, scholarly leadership, and vision for the journal.
The final appointment will be approved by the Board of Governors of the IEEE Education Society.
