Gamification and Serious Games as Pedagogical Strategies in AI-Enhanced Education
Presentation Menu
This lecture explores gamification and serious games as structured pedagogical approaches rather than motivational add-ons. It examines how game mechanics, narrative design, and feedback systems can support learning objectives in AI-enhanced educational contexts. Drawing on examples from formal education and research-based game design, the talk discusses how gamified systems influence learner motivation, self-regulation, and engagement. Particular attention is given to the use of AI for adaptive difficulty, personalized feedback, and data-informed progression within educational games. The lecture also critically examines common pitfalls, including superficial point-based designs and unintended behavioral incentives. Methodological considerations for evaluating learning outcomes in gamified environments are discussed, with emphasis on mixed-method approaches. The session concludes with design principles for integrating gamification and serious games into curricula in ways that remain pedagogically sound, ethically responsible, and scalable across educational settings.
