Generative AI for Education: A Critical Multiplex Approach

Abstract: This talk introduces a holistic framework for integrating AI in education, termed “Multiplex Critical AI.” It emphasizes the imperative for AI technologies to be not only technically proficient but also deeply rooted in values of inclusivity, human dignity, and wisdom. The approach respects human complexity and cultural traditions while fostering holistic development. The presentation highlights the importance of practical wisdom in education, the potential disruptions automation may cause to student-teacher relationships, and the critical need to cultivate non-epistemic competencies that empower human agency. A balanced and nuanced perspective on AI’s benefits and challenges will be explored, avoiding simplistic utopian or dystopian views. By integrating technical mastery with human-centered values, this talk aims to inspire a paradigm shift where technological progress enhances individual and societal wellbeing, enriching education through thoughtful and inclusive practices.
