The GUIDES Framework: Enhancing Engineering Education with GenAI

Abstract: This talk explores the transformative potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in engineering education through the innovative GUIDES framework. Grounded, Humane, Intentional, Dialogic, Experiential, and SelfDeveloping—the six pillars of GUIDES—form a comprehensive approach for embedding tools like ChatGPT within educational ecosystems. The framework envisions GenAI as an active participant in the collaborative triad of educators, students, and AI, fostering dialogic and adaptive learning environments. The session introduces strategic methodologies for GenAI integration, presents an updated taxonomy of educational objectives tailored for the AI era, and shares practical prompting techniques for maximizing teaching and learning efficacy.
