Integrating AI, Critical Thinking, and Ethics in Higher Education
Presentation Menu
This lecture examines how artificial intelligence is changing higher education not only as a technological innovation but as a catalyst for rethinking pedagogy, assessment, and academic responsibility. It argues that effective AI integration requires more than technical adoption; it demands structured cultivation of critical thinking and ethical reasoning across disciplines. Drawing on examples from computing and social sciences curricula, the talk presents concrete pedagogical models that embed AI use into inquiry-based learning rather than task automation. Particular attention is given to issues of bias, epistemic authority, authorship, and student agency in AI-mediated learning environments. The lecture discusses how ethical reflection can be operationalized through coursework design, assignments, and evaluation methods. It also addresses faculty challenges, including AI-proof assessment and constructive use of generative systems for learning support. The session concludes with a framework for aligning AI-enhanced teaching with institutional values and learning outcomes, positioning ethics as a practical competency rather than an abstract add-on.
