This second newsletter of the year begins with sad news. Last May our colleague and friend Rob Reilly passed away. Rob was a member of the IEEE Education Society for 21 years, serving the Society as President from 2011-2012. Rob was a very active person in our society, promoting the creation of numerous Education Society chapters around the world. He was a person who left a deep mark on the society and in our hearts. In this newsletter we have a moving tribute to Rob, a prelude to the one we will make at the next IEEE FIE conference.

In May we held for the first time the spring Board of Governors (BoG) in Europe, during the celebration of IEEE EDUCON 2024, the flagship conference of our society in IEEE Region 8. In this BoG we approved a new vice-presidency: Vice President for Outreach Activities, together with its corresponding committee, in addition to the projects chosen in the call for New Initiatives Projects. It was also decided to create the 'Ad-Hoc Committee to become a Global Leading Champion of Peace Engineering' and the endowment of up to 12 Education Society Student Travel Grant for up to $20,000 USD to assist IEEE Student Members at IEEE EdSoc financially sponsored conferences. More details in the BoG section.

Finally, two other flagship conferences of our society will be held in October: IEEE FIE 2024 in Washington (USA), October 13-16, and IEEE DEMOCON 2024 (formerly LWMOOCs) in Atlanta (USA), October 16-18. In addition to IEEE TALE 2024 in Bangalore (India), that will be held on December 9-12.

I hope you enjoy this newsletter!

Sincerely yours,

Martin
