Full, Work-in-Progress, and Workshop Paper Submission Deadline: 20 September 2021

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the organizing committee, I am pleased to invite you to attend the VI IEEE World Engineering Education Conference (EDUNINE 2022). The conference will be held as a Smart Distributed Conference in Ibero-America, from 13-16 March 2022, hosted by the International Institute of Education.

The IEEE World Engineering Education Conference - EDUNINE is a unique and innovative international conference that favors the exchange of knowledge and experiences. It is a meeting point for academics, professionals, researchers, and students of education in engineering, technology, computing, and other related fields. The program of the conference covers several of the main issues presented in education today, including; the design and development of new learning environments, the use of new technologies and experiences, the motivation of students, the evaluation of learning and competencies, and intervention in the face of learning difficulties, etc.

The EDUNINE 2022 Smart Distributed Conference will be a multi-city hybrid (virtual and traditional face-to-face) conference split between cities/countries in Latin America that have hosted previous editions of EDUNINE, as well as in Spain and Portugal, linked to each other using Internet-based video communication applications. The goal of this international multi-location (or multi-hub) hybrid conference is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia to focus on engineering, computing/informatics, and technology educational advances, and to connect groups of participants in different cities and continents in a hybrid way so it feels like all participants share the same place. The conference will host simultaneous in-person sessions to allow face-to-face social interaction within hubs and virtual sessions and social interaction among hubs. This new way of doing conferences improves accessibility for all participants bringing conference activities closer to participants in order to comply with travel and indoor gathering restrictions that may still be in place in March 2022.

The theme of this edition of the conference is "Rethinking Engineering Education After COVID-19: A Path to the New Normal". Conferences on education in engineering, computing, and technology are more relevant than ever for bridging communities and helping educators and policymakers to find creative and innovative solutions as a response to teaching and learning in the present crisis and in the longer-term future.

Authors may choose to present their papers in person at the nearest conference hub or online. Presenters (in-person and online-only) will be treated equally. Each talk will be seen by two audiences of registered participants (local and remote). Also, each talk will be recorded with the advantage that it can be viewed at any time. On-site presentations will be subject to the safety and health recommendations of the venue´s local authorities. The health of the participants and organizers is our priority.

We also invite authors to submit contributions that address the unprecedented disruption caused by COVID-19 on all aspects of higher education in our special thematic stream about Distance Education during COVID-19. Click here to view the full list of thematic streams and topics of interest.

The language of the papers for publication in the IEEE Xplore® digital library of IEEE is English for further international dissemination. The languages for the oral presentations of the papers in the sessions of the conference are English, Portuguese, and Spanish, corresponding to the most spoken languages in the Latin American region. The papers will be evaluated by peers based on originality, technical and/or research content/depth, correctness, relevance to conference, contributions, and readability in English.

The organizers are proud to organize this multimodal-multicity conference and we look forward to welcoming you to our first Smart Distributed conference in Ibero-America. We hope an approach of this kind can help our participants reduce their dependence on universities' financial status, travel, health, visa, and other restrictions while at the same time improving inclusiveness and cultural diversity.

Join us at EDUNINE 2022 so that together we can enjoy the conference activities and, as always, offer the best opportunities to strengthen and create new networks among all participants!
