POSTPONED to 2022
LWMOOCS 2021 - The 4th Industrial Revolution:
From the Pandemic to the Remote World

Dear IEEE Education Society Members,

The IEEE Education Society offers five high-quality engineering education conferences covering a broad range of topics. Four of these conferences are regionally located and cover a wide range of topics in engineering education. These flagship regional events provide continuing professional development for our members closer to their homes and are focused on issues important to engineering education in the region. Our fifth conference is a topic-specific event in content development, delivery, and assessment for students learning with massive open online courses.

Our conferences are known for the quality of the technical presentations and strong communities of researchers and practitioners. In 2020, all five events responded to the global pandemic with fully online events attended by thousands of participants. We are honored that our communities put their trust in us to provide diverse, inclusive, and valuable online events. In 2021, each conference has continued to monitor the pandemic in its host location and make decisions designed to protect the health and safety of its participants.

The Steering Committee of IEEE Learning with MOOCS, along with the 2021 Organizing Committee in Antigua, Guatemala, determined that a hybrid event with in-person registrants will not be possible in 2021. The committees also evaluated a fully online conference like that held in 2020. After significant dialogue and debate, the committees recommended the postponement of IEEE LWMOOCS 2021 to 2022. Authors with papers ongoing will be allowed to defer publication and presentation to IEEE Learning with MOOCS 2022 in Antigua, Guatemala. Authors electing not to defer will be free to seek alternate publication venues.

Our Society remains committed to health and safety, and to supporting our communities of researchers and practitioners. We hope that all of our members involved in the development or delivery of massive open online courses will watch for the IEEE Learning with MOOCS 2022 call-for-papers, submit publications for peer-review, and plan to join us, in person, in 2022!

We are continuing the process of reviewing submitted papers (and their complete versions) as well as accepting papers for the LWMOOCS 2022 conference, to be held in Antigua, Guatemala, from 28-30 September 2022, as well as attracting sponsors for this new conference. We will open the reception of new papers during 2021, as well as we will have a "specific" new call for papers with a deadline of 1 April 2022

To learn more about paper submission, we encourage you to visit the LWMOOCS 2022 submission and conference websites.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Manuel Castro, Steering Committee Chair at mcastro@ieec.uned.es.

Our Society remains committed to health and safety, and to supporting our communities of researchers and practitioners. We hope you remain active and involved with IEEE Learning with MOOCS and that you will plan to join us for an in-person event in 2022!
