Contributions within this area of scholarship will often be multidisciplinary, integrative, and/or interpretive syntheses across vast prior research to identify patterns, themes, trends, needs, and opportunities upon which other scholars can build. Papers in this area will bring together knowledge from a range of different sources and present an overview of the findings using interpretation and synthesis to bring new insights to original research. Examples of this style of paper may include meta-analysis or systematic review papers Review Criteria Relevance: Is the need for the anticipated synthesis justified sufficiently? How relevant is the synthesis described in the manuscript to education in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and other fields within the scope of interest of IEEE? Are significant issues in education in these areas articulated? Focus: How explicit and clear is the focus? Are intent and plan of work explicit and clearly stated? Context: How well have authors analyzed prior research related to their intended synthesis? How well does prior work support the need for the proposed work? Have they situated their work within the context of prior research? Contribution: Have the authors explicitly and clearly articulated how their synthesis will contribute to current work? Methodology: Have the authors explicitly and clearly described how they perform their synthesis? To what extent does their approach align with currently accepted methodologies? Findings: To what extent are synthesis findings compelling and different from what has been previously published? To what extent do synthesis findings reinforce what has been previously published? To what extent do synthesis findings contradict what has been previously published? To what extent have the synthesis findings contributed to existing knowledge and/or literature? Conclusions: What is the significance of the conclusions? Are opportunities for further innovations in practice identified? Are potential research questions identified? Are policy implications considered? Organization and Clarity: To what extent does the manuscript demonstrate effectively organized, clear, and concise presentation appropriate for the readership of the IEEE Transactions on Education? To be appropriate for publication in an IEEE journal, a manuscript must be written in grammatically-correct English, and in the third person. Illustrations: To what extent do tables and figures meaningfully add to the narrative? Structured Abstract Requirements For submission, to the area of Scholarship of Integration, the following sections will be required. Contribution: Briefly describe the new knowledge emerging from the study. Background: Briefly describe the rationale for the study presented in the manuscript. The background is expected to provide a rationale for the study, that is, why is the study needed? The background is expected to establish a context that suggests the study has broad application in many programs across the world. Research Questions: Briefly present the research questions that the study is intended to address. Methodology: Briefly describe the research methodology with which the study was done.
